Flucloxacillin Antibiotic Prescribed Online
Can I get Flucloxacillin without a prescription?
We are a licensed clinic, and we are authorised to issue online prescriptions following a doctor assessment. The assessment is done online and only takes a few minutes. Please complete an online consultation form to begin the process. Medications are dispensed from our pharmacy for next day delivery, or we can issue a private prescription to a pharmacy local to you for same day collection.
What is Flucloxacillin?
Flucloxacillin is a type of narrow spectrum penicillin antibiotic available in capsule, oral liquid and injectable form, and is used to treat a range of common bacterial infections. We do not prescribe the injectable form online.
Flucloxacillin is also available under brand names, including Floxapen.
How does Flucloxacillin work?
Flucloxacillin works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Specifically, Flucloxacillin acts by blocking bacteria from forming cell walls. Without a cell wall, the bacteria cannot function and replicate so the colony will eventually die.
How is Flucloxacillin used to treat bacterial infections?
Flucloxacillin is used to treat bacterial infections in the upper and lower respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis, tonsillitis and pneumonia; urinary tract infections such as cystitis and urethritis; skin and soft tissue infections such as boils and abscesses; and infected wounds and burns. We tend to prescribe the medication mainly for skin infections but we will consider other uses.
Oral Flucloxacillin works best when taken with water on an empty stomach, usually an hour before food or 2 hours after food. A standard course of treatment with Flucloxacillin involves taking it four times a day until you finish your medicine: usually 5 to 10 days.
Are there any side effects of Flucloxacillin?
The most common side effects are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash or hives. Less frequent side effects include allergic reactions (particularly of the skin) and fever. Very few people get side effects but you should notify us if we have prescribed for you and you have an adverse reaction.
Can anyone use Flucloxacillin?
Flucloxacillin is not appropriate for everyone. Please make a full disclosure on our consultation form and we will ensure that we prescribe an appropriate treatment for you.
