Premature Ejaculation Treatment

Premature ejaculation is the technical term for coming too quickly during sexual intercourse. What is considered as too quick is down to the couple but as a rough guide it is normally defined as the man reaching orgasm in less than 2 minutes following penetration.

Is there a Cure for Premature Ejaculation?

The good news is that there is a way to stop premature ejaculation with the use of a prescription medication. The Online Clinic can prescribe this for patients if it is appropriate given their medical history. There are other treatments such as anaesthetic gel and condoms with benzocaine on the inside. Some doctors will also recommend cognitive behaviour therapy.

Premature Ejaculation Information

According to some studies, the natural body response is to ejaculate within 2 minutes of vaginal penetration and the control of ejaculation develops with experience. A further study that analysed data collected from 500 heterosexual couples found the average time recorded between penetration and ejaculation was under five and half minutes. It is actually not entirely helpful to discuss the subject of premature ejaculation in terms of period of duration as the really important point is whether both partners have derived sufficient pleasure from the experience.

There is a degree of anecdotal evidence to suggest that men who started having sex very early and furtively (so as not to be caught in the act) have developed a propensity to ejaculate quickly but this theory is controversial.

Therapy can sometimes be used to cure premature ejaculation and there is an established technique to physically retard ejaculation called the Masters-Johnson Method but this is rather complicated and requires a full demonstration - so pretty embarrassing. It is hardly surprising then that the 20 -30% of men who suffer from premature ejaculation are resorting to the new prescription medication that stops premature ejaculation in most people who use it.

Premature Ejaculation Causes

A number of things can cause the issue of premature ejaculation. In our experience, psychological factors tend to be more dominant, such as the man being nervous. Premature ejaculation can also be caused by inflammation of the prostate gland. If you have other symptoms as well as premature ejaculation then you should discuss these with your doctor.

Other Forms of Ejaculation Dysfunction

There are 2 other types of ejaculation dysfunction: retarded and retrograde ejaculation.

Retarded ejaculation is the continual or recurring inability to ejaculate during sexual activity despite having the desire to do so. Retarded ejaculation is also referred to as delayed ejaculation or male orgasmic disorder.

Retrograde ejaculation is caused when the valve at the base of the bladder does not close upon ejaculating and the ejaculate is pushed backwards into the bladder. Sexual pleasure is still experienced but the ejaculation occurs inside the body. With retrograde ejaculation the feeling of orgasm is experienced but little or no semen is produced from the tip of the penis. This could make conception very difficult.

Retrograde ejaculation is rare and can result from complications following surgery (for example prostate surgery) or from health conditions that affect the nerves such as diabetes or multiple sclerosis. Treatment is not always possible if there is nerve damage. Treatment for this form of ejaculation dysfunction depends upon what it is caused by.

The treatment prescribed by The Online Clinic is for premature ejaculation only. If you have experienced retarded or retrograde ejaculation then you should speak to your own doctor.
