Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve an erection sufficient for penetration or the inability to maintain an erection following penetration until climax.
Erectile dysfunction can be caused by a number of issues. These can be psychological or physiological in nature. Psychological issues are normally dealt with through cognitive behavioural therapy. Where the problem is deemed to be physiological, medications can be prescribed. Sometimes medication helps men get over psychological issues too.
There are a number of medications that can be prescribed for erectile dysfunction. These include oral medication like Viagra, injectables like Caverject and a cream known as Vitaros.
Oral Medications
Viagra is the most well-known erectile dysfunction medication but there are others, including Cialis (known as the weekend pill because of its long period of duration); Spedra (a fast-acting alternative) and Levitra. There is even a chewable one called Nipatra.
Injectable Medications
Where oral medications have failed, there are three medications that can be injected directly into the penis: Caverject; Viridal Duo and Invicorp. All of these medications have a very high success rate.
Creams and Suppositories
If an injection does not sound like a good way forward for you then there is a urethral suppository called MUSE. This comes with an applicator device and is very easy to use.
There is also a cream version of alprostadil (the active ingredient in MUSE) and this is dispensed into the urethra with a special device that is supplied with the medication.
All of the treatments have a high success rate and we always recommend that you start off with an oral medication. We even supply starter packs so you can try a few different medications so you can easily find one that suits you. Advice is on hand, should you require it.
